Rescued Canine Discovered Alive after Being Stray during Texas Floods due to GPS Collar
Dog Trapped in Floodwaters Rescued After 16 Hours
In a heartwarming story of survival, a dog named Ziva was found alive after being trapped for 16 hours during the recent floods in Texas. The eight-year-old Turkish Kangal went missing from her owner's ranch on July 4, crossing the Medina River which soon became inundated.
Ziva was trapped in a flooded gully near the river, with the rising waters blocking her escape. The three other sides of the gully were too steep and slick for Ziva to climb out on her own. However, thanks to the Tractive GPS collar that Ziva's owner, Erin Doguet, had previously fitted to her dog, the search for Ziva was made easier.
Doguet was able to track Ziva's location using the Tractive app and found her using the sound feature, which helped pinpoint her exact location. Doguet shared Ziva's tracker location with her sister and petsitter to aid in the search.
Despite being trapped for such a long period, Ziva survived with little physical damage. After being rescued, she was immediately given water and slept for 12 hours. There doesn't appear to be any lasting damage to Ziva, and she seems to be recovering well.
The Best Friends Animal Society is currently raising money for its emergency response fund to help animals affected by the floods in Texas. Hundreds of animals have been affected by the flooding this month, and many are still missing.
Ziva's story serves as a reminder of the importance of pet safety during natural disasters. With the help of technology like the Tractive GPS collar, more pets can be found and rescued in time.
