Zons' Iconic Rheinturm Reopens After 20-Year Closure

The historic town of Zons is once again home to a landmark that has been a part of its identity for centuries. The Rheinturm, a towering structure that has stood tall since the 19th century, reopened its doors to the public on Sunday, September 21, after being closed for two decades.

Mayor Erik Lierenfeld described the reopening as a "historic moment" for the town, highlighting the importance of the Rheinturm in making Zons more attractive for visitors. The state of North Rhine-Westphalia covered the largest share of the total costs, which amounted to around 500,000 euros, for the Rheinturm's renovation.

The Stadtmarketing- und Wirtschaftsfoerderungsgesellschaft Dormagen (SWD) will mediate Rheinturm tours for now, but the organization "Visit Düsseldorf" will take over this responsibility in the future. On the opening day, around 220 interested visitors participated in the first guided tours, each accommodating a maximum of 20 participants.

Each group was supported by the Zons garrison, and many visitors took the opportunity to view the historic city and surrounding area from the 27-meter-high tower's roof. Information panels and panoramic graphics on topics such as towing, customs, and the shift in the Rhine's course are available for visitors to learn more about the town's rich history.

Guided tours of the Rheinturm will be available at the Matthäus market this weekend, and no registration is required. The participation fee for adults is six euros, and for children, it is two euros. Group tours can be booked at www.stadtfuehrungen-unsere Website.

Mayor Lierenfeld emphasized that the Rheinturm embodies the identity of Zons like no other building, and the reopening is seen as an important boost for tourism in the region. The reopening was marked by a festive program and strong public interest, with Tours offered on both Saturday, September 20, and Sunday, September 21.

Whether you're a local or a visitor, the reopening of the Rheinturm provides a unique opportunity to experience the beauty and history of Zons from a new perspective. Don't miss out on this chance to take a step back in time and appreciate the town's rich heritage.
