Ripple Greenway: £440k Boost for Barking's New Linear Park
A new linear park, the Ripple Greenway, is taking shape in Barking and Dagenham. The project management has secured over £440k in match funding from the Mayor of London's Green Capital Grant and Barking Riverside Ltd. The 1.3km walking and cycling route will connect the River Thames to Barking town centre, providing a safe, traffic-free route for everyone to enjoy.
The project has been driven by the borough's residents, who have long called for improved access to green area in the area. The community has been instrumental in designing the park, which will include natural play features, a green community orchard, seating areas, and improved wildlife habitats. The park is expected to be a treasured community asset for generations to come.
Work has already begun on the project management, with Trees for Cities and local community volunteers set to plant trees in the park over the winter. Thames 21 will enhance and maintain the waterways. The linear park will open up underused green area, link communities in the Thames Ward area, and offer safer routes to school.
Councillor Cameron Geddes has expressed excitement about the project's progress. The Ripple Greenway is expected to take shape over the coming months, providing a valuable addition to the local area and a testament to the power of community collaboration.
