In a commendable move towards environmental responsibility, audio technology giant Shure has set ambitious goals for its packaging and product design. The company aims to convert 75% of new packaging to recyclable and/or renewable materials by 2023, with this percentage growing to 90% by 2025 and 100% by 2030.

Key sustainable packaging initiatives for Shure include replacing thermoform trays with recyclable alternatives, reducing plastic materials, cutting down on literature, and right-sizing packaging. These measures are part of Shure's broader commitment to sustainability, which extends beyond packaging to the design of its products.

Shure's commitment to sustainability is evident in various aspects of its operations. For instance, the company's products are engineered to help with overall power consumption, using less energy in 'down' modes. Moreover, Shure allows remote monitoring of power use with Wireless Workbench Software, enabling users to optimize energy efficiency.

Shure's dedication to sustainability is not confined to its own operations. The company is a member of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition and works with suppliers who take action on sustainability, including those using solar power and recycled water in their operations.

One tangible impact of Shure's sustainability efforts can be seen in the world of theatre. One Broadway show saved more than 21,000 AA batteries from landfills by using Shure's rechargeable system during its run. In the past five years, Shure has eliminated nearly 30 million AA batteries from ending up in landfills. By 2027, the company estimates that over 100 million AA batteries will have been saved from landfills due to their rechargeable batteries.

Shure's manufacturing plants also play a significant role in waste reduction. They have recycling programs for cardboard boxes and wooden pallets, keeping tons of cardboard waste and nearly 5,000 wooden pallets out of landfills.

Chris Schyvinck, President and CEO at Shure, encapsulates the company's approach when he says, 'Green isn't just in our logo, it's an important part of who we are.' Shure's cross-functional team regularly reviews international regulations to ensure environmental compliance with RoHS, REACH, and WEEE, demonstrating a proactive approach to sustainable electronics and electronics manufacturing.

With over 1,500 different packaging pieces for various products, Shure's journey towards complete sustainability is a significant undertaking. However, the company's unwavering commitment to environmental responsibility, as demonstrated by its ambitious packaging goals and various sustainable initiatives, positions it as a leader in sustainable innovation.
