Ready to lend a helping hand for the 2025 National Public Lands Day (NPLD)? Mark your calendars for September 27 - it's time to roll up your sleeves for America's beloved outdoors!
The 32nd annual NPLD, organized by the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), is the nation's largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands. Last year's event brought together a staggering 50,000 volunteers across all 50 states to partake in over 750 events, generating a whopping $10 million in volunteer service value.
If you're planning to organize a volunteer event for NPLD 2025, make sure to register your event on the official event map. This way, your event will join the hundreds of others that'll be taking place to celebrate our shared outdoor spaces.
To help you prepare, NEEF will host a free webinar on July 29 at 3 p.m. ET. This session is brimming with expert advice on recruitment, community partnership building, and planning successful events using budget-friendly tools and real-world strategies.
This year's theme, "Our Home Outdoors," emphasizes that public lands are more than just landscapes - they're the backdrop for our daily lives and the spaces that bring communities together. By volunteering for NPLD 2025, you'll help safeguard these cherished spaces and reinforce our collective sense of community.
Sara Espinoza, president and CEO of NEEF, notes, "For over three decades, National Public Lands Day has served as a powerful demonstration of collective action, supporting those who care for our public lands and fostering a stronger sense of community through shared connection to nature."
Speaking of which, Lindsay "Bones" Cordero, a renowned Washington, D.C. artist and author-illustrator, has brought this year's theme to life through her captivating illustrations. As the 2023 Veterans Day Google Doodle guest artist, Lindsay leans on her love for storytelling and dedication to mental health, literacy, and conservation to inspire a sense of belonging and community.
