Every time I post my calligraphy work with floral doodles, people always ask, "How can I learn to draw florals like that?" Well, hold onto your hats, cause' here's how I did it!
So, how did I learn to create floral doodles?
I have to confess, I taught myself! One day, when I decided I wanted to add florals to my work, I just started observing. I watched others who did florals, grabbed pieces I liked, and practiced drawing them myself (NOTE: This does NOT mean copying other artists' work and claiming it as my own! 🙅♀️).
After some time, I compiled a collection of doodles that I enjoyed and played around with them until I could rearrange them and use them in my work.

- Tombow Brush Pen: Great for adding broader strokes and varying line widths.
Let's Get Doodling:
Step 1: Prepare Your Paper Start by laying out your Rhodia paper. This paper is awesome for creating smooth lines, and it's perfect for doodling!
Step 2: Sketch Basic Shapes Use a Tombow Mono Drawing Pen to lightly sketch the basic shapes of flowers and leaves. Try circles, teardrops, and ovals for flowers.
Step 3: Add Details with Mono Pens - Lines and Patterns: Use the Mono Drawing Pens to create intricate patterns on the flowers. Varying line thickness can add depth and interest. - Leaves: Draw leaves using teardrop shapes. Add veins by drawing thin lines down the center of the leaves.
Step 4: Shading and Texture with Brush Pen - Shading: Use the Tombow Brush Pen to add shading to your flowers and leaves. This will help create depth and dimension. - Large Strokes: Use the brush pen for larger strokes to create the petals of bigger flowers or to outline the flowers for a more defined look.
Step 5: Emphasize with Repetition and Contrast - Repetition: Repeat patterns and shapes to create a cohesive look. - Contrast: Combine thin and thick lines to create contrast and visual interest in your doodles.
Step 6: Final Touches Take a step back and review your work. Add some final details or refine any areas that need more definition.
