The city of Hiddesen is set to host a public conference on the 17th of May, titled "A Monument - Many Perspectives." This event, taking place at the Haus des Gastes, aims to delve into various aspects of the Hermann's Monument, a national landmark that has stood tall for 150 years.

The Hermann's Monument, a significant influence on the city's landscape and a tourist attraction, was also a subject of great importance to Ernst von Bandel, whose impact extended far beyond Lippe. Von Bandel played a crucial role in the creation of this iconic monument.

The conference, organized by the Stadtarchiv Detmold, the Lippische Heimatbund, and the Heimatverein Hiddesen, promises to be an enlightening day, filled with insightful discussions on the history, artistic influences, impact on the city, and the monument's role as a nationalist longing place.

Scholars from various fields, local policymakers, cultural institutions, and community representatives will participate in the conference, sharing their perspectives on this subject. The event will run from 9:30 AM to 5 PM, with food and drinks provided by the Heimatverein Hiddesen.

The conference also aims to discuss how to handle nationally charged sites today, offering a unique opportunity for open dialogue and understanding.

For further information and registration, interested individuals can contact the Heimatverein Hiddesen e.V. at telephone number 05231 89333 or email [email protected]. Inquiries can also be directed to Dr. Bärbel Sunderbrink, Stadtarchiv Detmold, at telephone number 05231 766 110 or email stadtarchiv@our website. Daniela Lang can also be contacted at E-Mail 05231 977 201.

The Hermann's Monument continues to be a subject of exploration for scholars beyond Lippe, making this conference an excellent opportunity for those interested in learning more about this historic monument and its significance. Donations are welcomed for the conference. Join us on the 17th of May for a day of enlightening discussions and shared perspectives.
