Community Gathers for Successful Summer Learning Club (SLC)

The Viersen community came together for a memorable summer as the annual Summer Learning Club (SLC) wrapped up with much success. Over the course of the event, more than 120 people attended weekly meetings, and a total of 103 participants took part in this year's summer edition.

Deputy Library Director Uta Krüger led the dedicated team organising the SLC, which included a variety of activities designed to engage all age groups. From grandparents to grandchildren, everyone was represented, making the event a true community affair.

A highlight of the SLC was the introduction of the "Courage Dice," donated to the Viersen Children's House. These unique dice were crafted during the third club meeting by Steffi Verfürth and Inge Schäben-Buscher, and were presented to Nadine van der Aar, a member of the Viersen Children's House. The Children's House is a home for severely multiply disabled and permanently ventilated children, and Nadine was given a brief insight into the SLC. Nadine expressed her gratitude for the lovingly crafted dice and thanked the SLC organisers for their thoughtfulness.

Throughout the SLC, numerous activities were documented in 38 logbooks submitted by participants. These logbooks provided a record of various activities, from reading 791 books to listening to 253 audiobooks. Everyone who collected at least three stamps and submitted their logbook on time received an official SLC certificate and a small gift.

The SLC also featured a competition for a "Hero's Diploma" and a green screen photo opportunity at the VHS MediaLab. The closing party was filled with laughter and camaraderie as medals and small gifts were awarded for the best logbooks.

Uta Krüger expressed her satisfaction with the SLC and plans to improve it in the future. "We are thrilled with the success of this year's SLC and are already looking forward to making next year's event even better," she said.

The Viersen community looks forward to next year's Summer Learning Club, where they can once again come together to learn, have fun, and build lasting memories.
