In 2025, the ART4SEA program made a splash in the world of sustainability and art. This innovative initiative, focused on ocean conservation, seamlessly blends art, creativity, science, and technology.

The program, which attracted 24 international artists, offered residencies on three Mediterranean islands—Ustica (Italy), Alonissos (Greece), and Gozo (Malta). During these residencies, artists were inspired by the local natural environments and maritime traditions, creating physical artworks that transformed the islands into living museums promoting ocean conservation. These exhibitions, both physical and virtual, ensured broad accessibility and engagement.

ART4SEA encouraged interactive and participatory cooperation. Workshops were available for transforming glass, upcycling clothing, and even repairing bicycles. A graffiti workshop painted visions of a colorful city of the future, while screen-printed designs were used in DIY clothing upcycling workshops.

Moreover, the program facilitated discussions on ecological and social sustainability questions. The "Leaf Lounge" provided practical everyday tips, and live hacks were offered in this space for additional advice. For a healthy energy boost, participants could engage in smoothie biking.

The Living Lab Multispecies Campus opened an exhibition on the relationship between humans and nature, further emphasising ART4SEA's commitment to sustainability. The program also offered opportunities for reflection and networking, fostering collaboration among artists, scientists, and the public.

While specific details on the format of live hacks or games were not found, ART4SEA's participatory model suggests a highly interactive structure designed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange around sustainability themes.

In summary, ART4SEA's multidisciplinary program featured interactive workshops and mentorship for artists, live residencies emphasising creativity inspired by sustainable ocean environments, exhibitions—both physical (open-air and underwater) and virtual, networking across international artists, scientists, and local communities, engagement with sustainability through artistic expression and technology, and opportunities for participation, reflection, and networking. This unique program is a testament to the power of art and community involvement in driving sustainability initiatives.
