Sustainable shopping center makes its debut in Brussels

La Galerie Marchande, a new sustainable shopping center, is set to become a popular eco-conscious destination in the heart of Brussels. Located in the Gare Maritime of Tour & Taxis, this four-in-one shopping center offers a supermarket, clothing shop, drugstore, and coffee corner.

The brainchild of founder Céleste Kabanyana, La Galerie Marchande opened its doors on November 21, according to Belgian newspaper Le Soir. Céleste, who had little experience with sustainability when she conceived the idea, was able to turn her vision into reality thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Ulule.

The clothing shop at La Galerie Marchande features sustainable brands, with new and established labels rotating every three months. The supermarket offers in-season, local vegetables and personal hygiene products, ensuring a greener and healthier shopping experience.

Céleste's life took a turn for the better when she designed La Galerie Marchande, and the shopping center reflects this positive change. All furnishings are made from second-hand materials, and workshops are held monthly to educate visitors about sustainability.

Quiet hours are scheduled to ensure the store is accessible to all, and on Sundays, La Galerie Marchande hosts a Sunday Brunch. The coffee corner, with its freshly ground coffee and seating for shopping or work, is expected to be a popular spot for locals and visitors alike.

La Galerie Marchande is shaping up to be the new go-to place for anyone with an eco-consciousness in Brussels. For those interested in sustainable shopping centers, it may be a recent development not yet covered in publicly available sources, making local news sources, city planning offices, or the official website of the shopping center the best resources for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
