Switzerland Tightens Wildlife Protection, Urges Public to Report Cruelty

Switzerland is stepping up its efforts to protect wildlife and combat animal welfare violations. New guidelines encourage reporting suspected cruelty, illegal traps, or poaching to local authorities and wildlife stations.

The Swiss government has issued a reminder that anyone witnessing animal cruelty or illegal activities should report them to the local gamekeeper and/or police. Detailed hunting statistics are available for each canton, providing insights into wildlife populations.

Wildlife protection organizations are on hand to offer assistance and support. The hunting calendar varies by species, with minimum closed seasons in place to safeguard animal welfare. However, caution is advised when dealing with hobby hunters, who may resort to manipulation and false information.

Jagd Schweiz, the umbrella organization for Swiss hobby hunters, has faced criticism due to members' involvement in law violations, including hunting law offences, poaching, and animal welfare violations. The public is urged to provide video or photo evidence, along with accurate descriptions of incidents, to aid investigations.

The Swiss government is committed to protecting wildlife and combating animal welfare violations. By reporting suspected cruelty and illegal activities, the public can play a crucial role in maintaining the country's diverse animal kingdom.
