The undertaking is grounded in three distinct initiatives:
The Landesgartenschau Neuss 2026, a horticultural exhibition in Neuss, Germany, is set to feature a unique addition—a Skater Pavilion. This structure, designed by renowned London-based architect Jan Glasmeier, will serve as a gathering spot for the local skateboarding community and a model project for sustainable urban development.
The construction of the Skater Pavilion will commence on the event grounds, starting with Workshop 1 from August 19-22, 2025. During this workshop, the supporting structure, windows, doors, possibly floor covering, and green roof will be built.
The Skater Pavilion will be constructed using eco-friendly materials and reused building materials. Used doors, windows, posts, and beams from old horse stables, straw bales from a local farmer, clay plaster made from LAGA excavation, and 'old' cobblestones will be used in its construction. This method saves CO2, avoids waste, and demonstrates future-oriented building without expensive materials and with creative reuse.
Jan Glasmeier, known for fostering an inner transformation through self-built projects, is collaborating with students, future users, and volunteers on this project. He works alongside architect Franziska Müller in his architectural office, which specialises in social and community projects.
A second workshop, Workshop 2, will take place from October 28-31, 2025. During this workshop, straw bales will be filled, clay plaster will be applied, and interior finishing will occur.

The Skater Pavilion reflects the themes of sustainability and environmental awareness that the Landesgartenschau Neuss stands for in the coming year. After the event, the Skater Pavilion will remain as a permanent meeting place and gathering spot for the skateboarding community.
The Skater Pavilion, a sustainable urban development project within the Landesgartenschau Neuss 2026, will transition from a concept to reality with the construction phase commencing in August 2025. This home-and-garden and lifestyle initiative, led by Jan Glasmeier, will adopt eco-friendly materials and reused building materials, fostering a sustainable living approach.
