In a creative endeavour to enhance the appearance and functionality of a 1998 Bailey caravan purchased from Facebook Marketplace, its new owners embarked on a refurbishment project for the kitchen cabinets. Using fluted glass-effect film and Perspex, they were able to give their caravan a modern and stylish makeover.

## Materials Required - Fluted Glass-Effect Film, available in various colours and patterns - Perspex Sheets - Adhesive Spray or Glue - Scissors or Craft Knife - Ruler or Straightedge - Pencil or Marker - Cleaning Solution - Sanding Tool (optional)

## Steps to Refurbish Caravan Kitchen Cabinets

### 1. Prepare the Surfaces - Clean the cabinets thoroughly with a mild cleaning solution to remove dirt and grease. - If necessary, sand rough surfaces to ensure better adhesion.

### 2. Measure the Cabinet Surfaces - Measure the dimensions of the cabinet doors, shelves, and any other surfaces you want to cover. - Record these measurements to ensure accurate cuts.

### 3. Cut the Fluted Glass-Effect Film - Use scissors or a craft knife to cut the film according to your measurements. - Ensure the cuts are precise to avoid waste and ensure a smooth fit.

### 4. Apply the Fluted Glass-Effect Film - Apply a thin layer of adhesive spray or glue to the back of the film or the cabinet surface. - Carefully place the film on the surface, smoothing out any air bubbles or wrinkles using a credit card or similar tool. - Repeat this process for all surfaces you want to cover.

### 5. Cut the Perspex Sheets - Measure and cut the Perspex sheets to fit doors, shelves, or any other components you want to replace or cover. - Use a saw or a craft knife designed for cutting Perspex.

### 6. Attach the Perspex Sheets - Apply adhesive or use screws (if appropriate) to secure the Perspex sheets to the cabinet frames. - Ensure the Perspex is aligned properly and securely attached.

### 7. Finishing Touches - Inspect the work for any bubbles or unevenness and correct as needed. - Apply additional decorative elements if desired, such as new hardware or trim.

The owners of the refurbished caravan decided to add a luxe touch to the upper cabinet doors by using screws instead of glue, allowing for easy disassembly in the future. They removed the cabinet doors, took out the infill panels, and replaced them with fluted glass-effect film. A sheet of 2mm Perspex was bought from Wickes and cut to size to fit into the recesses on the back of the doors. The fluted glass-effect film was trimmed to match the Perspex.

The centre panels of the doors were starting to come loose after 25 years of use. They were cleaned with a microfibre cloth before reassembly. The old infill panels were used as templates for cutting the Perspex.

Nigel Donnelly, a lifelong caravanner, shared updates on Twitter @nrdonnelly, documenting his journey through the refurbishment process. The interior view of the smart new doors was now ready, and the refurbished cabinets were ready to store caravan crockery and other kitchen essentials.
