Tübingen's Umbria-Provence market is currently active
In the heart of Tübingen's old town, a vibrant celebration of Southern life is about to unfold. The Umbrian-Provencal market, now open until the end of the week, promises a culinary journey filled with flavours from Italy and France.
The market, which kicked off on Wednesday with the official opening by Mayor Boris Palmer, features a total of 36 traders from Italy and southern France, along with additional stalls from local Tübingen traders.
Federico Phellas, a councilor in Umbria, views the market as more than just a shopping experience. For him, it's an opportunity to further deepen the partnership between Tübingen and Umbria, and to showcase the rich culture and gastronomy of his region.
The market's gastronomy is open until 1 am every day, except for Sunday when it closes at 10 pm. On Sunday, the Tübingen City Run passes through the market, and the shops remain open on this day.
The weather forecast for the week is promising, with sunny weather and warm temperatures expected during the market. This is good news for those planning to enjoy a glass of wine at leisure while strolling through the old town alleys, as Mayor Boris Palmer plans to do around 11 pm on a warm night.
The market's programme also includes guided tours of the old town and Stocherkahn boat rides. On Saturday, a children's festival is taking place in the Bürgerheim's inner courtyard from 10 am to 4 pm.
Mayor Boris Palmer is ready to address any issues related to Tübingen's old town and its trade. Last year, the Tübingen Trade and Commerce Association (HGV) served mulled wine to keep the crowd entertained during the market.
This year, a vibrant blue artichoke tower by Gerhard Kehrer has taken centre stage on Tübingen's market square, adding a unique touch to the market's atmosphere.
The Umbrian-Provencal market is an important event for Tübingen, not just for its cultural and gastronomic value, but also for its potential to boost the city's attractiveness. While various parties note Tübingen's attractiveness, some unwanted parties have also expressed interest.
The Umbrian-Provencal market is open daily from 10 am. Visitors are encouraged to take a stroll, enjoy the food, and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of the market.
