University of Chittagong's Graffiti-Adorned Shuttle Trains: A Loved Student Tradition
The University of Chittagong offers a unique mode of transport for its students - a shuttle train service adorned with vibrant graffiti art. This service, which began in 1980, has become a beloved part of student life, with 10,000 to 12,000 students relying on it daily.
The graffiti, painted by renowned German artist Lucas Gilinger in 2021, depicts various scenes of Bangladesh, including the historic Chittagong Railway Station and scenic views. The colorful murals have not only transformed the trains into moving works of art but also sparked joy among students, who often share images on social media.
The shuttle train service started with seven pairs of trains and has since become the primary affordable means of transportation for students traveling from Chattogram to the university. It's not uncommon to hear students singing in chorus during the journey, adding to the lively atmosphere.
However, some riders have called on authorities to improve the overall shuttle experience by making necessary repairs and improvements.
