Sparkling Premium Teas Take Center Stage with Saicho's New Rare Tea Collection

Buoyed by the surging demand for refined and premium non-alcoholic drinks, Saicho, a purveyor of outstanding sparkling teas, recently unleashed its latest offering – the Rare Tea Collection. This collection represents a golden opportunity for tea aficionados to dive into some of the world's most enchanting blends.

A Mythical Taste of Eight Immortals

Leading off the collection is the alluring Eight Immortals. Hailing from the captivating mythology of China, this extraordinary Chinese oolong tea boasts exotic, spiced aromas and intricate bittersweet notes. Named in honor of one of China's most revered legends, this rare Dan Cong tea cultivar hails from Guangdong province. The leaves are painstakingly hand-picked in early Spring, 1000 meters above sea level, on Phoenix Mountain, a renowned region blessed with soil rich in minerals, foggy climates, and a rugged landscape.

Attention to Painstakingly Crafted Perfection

Unlike conventional teas, which are sourced from small bushes, the leaves for this blend are carefully plucked from matured, towering Dan Cong tea trees. Despite the challenges of harvesting these taller trees, the result is an extremely high-quality yield. The leaves then undergo a labor-intensive process involving sun and shade withering, bamboo tray laying, shaking, rolling for oxidation, roasting in a hot pan, and squeezing. Meticulous watchdog Tea Master, Mr Huang, is instrumental in overseeing this intricate process. Finally, the leaves undergo a 24-hour cold brewing process to extract the delicate aromatics while minimizing the release of bitter and astringent compounds. Ending the process, the brewed concoction is carefully carbonated to elevate the natural aromatics of the tea.

A Champagne Treatment for a Tea Fit for Royalty

Like any prestigious sparkling beverage, the Eight Immortals tea shines best in a champagne flute. Taking your first sip unveils scents of nectarine, ginger, sweet baking spices, and confit peach, with an earthy undertone. The tea's subtle savory notes blend with a lightly tannic finish, revealing further flavors of ginger, mango, tangerine, and melon on the palate. A blood orange-like bitterness emerges, followed by herbal notes of anise, fennel, and tarragon, making it the perfect pairing for soft cheeses or lightly spiced dishes.

A Timeless Tradition Reinvented for Modern Times

Just in time for the holiday season, the Eight Immortals tea makes an ideal addition to festive gatherings, serving as an intriguing alternative to alcoholic fizz. Consider gifting it to loved ones or sharing it as part of your celebration – each 750ml bottle comes adorned with a hand-folded paper neck wrap and is encased in an earthen-toned box featuring golden phoenix detailing, a poignant reminder of the tea's legendary origins on Phoenix Mountain.

Charlie Winkworth-Smith, founder of Saicho, shared his vision for the new collection: "Our goal with the Rare Tea Collection is to highlight some of the most exceptional teas in the world. Inspired by the traditional Asian practice of tea gifting, we aspire for our Rare Tea Collection to serve as a means of carrying forward this cherished custom."
