Upgraded features, particularly the impressive camera zoom, make Apple's iPhone 17 Pro a stealthy worthy enhancement

The iPhone 16 Pro, Apple's latest premium offering, has been launched with a host of notable improvements. Starting with the camera, the iPhone 16 Pro boasts a new 48-megapixel telephoto camera lens. This upgrade allows for a 4x and 8x optical zoom, offering the longest ever zoom on an iPhone. The telephoto lens also enables clearer, detailed shots at 8x zoom without the need to creep in close to subjects or capture distant landmarks. The iPhone 16 Pro is a slightly thicker model compared to its predecessors, but it comes with a price tag to match. Priced at £1,099, the iPhone 16 Pro can be purchased from various network providers, including EE, Vodafone, and O2. In terms of design, the iPhone 16 Pro features a glass MagSafe-compatible square on its posterior, resembling oversized pockets on cobalt blue chore jackets. It also sports a stronger, shatter-resistant Ceramic Shield 2 glass on its front side and a new aluminium back. The iPhone 16 Pro and the 16 Pro Max now scale up to 3,000 nits of brightness for improved contrast. This, along with the longer battery life—the 16 Pro running for a claimed 31 hours and the Pro Max for 37 hours—makes the iPhone 16 Pro a formidable contender in the smartphone market. Despite needing to compete with the standard iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 Pro is not resting on its laurels. The updates in the standard iPhone 16 have made it a formidable competitor, but the iPhone 16 Pro is striving to stand out. Interestingly, the iPhone Pro, introduced five years ago, was Apple's biggest screen, longest battery life, and best camera smartphone at the time. The iPhone Pro, which I have been using, was a showcase of what Apple's smartphone technology could be if money was no object. This year, Apple has also introduced the iPhone Air, a new model designed to appeal to more design-conscious consumers. The iPhone 16, a standard model from Apple, has received updates to its screen and camera, previously only available for Pro models. The iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max, launched in 2025, are manufactured by Apple. The smartphones are designed and branded by Apple, with components like the display supplied by companies such as BOE (for Mainland China) and Samsung/LG for other markets. The iPhone 16 Pro is available in a new burned orange colorway, adding a touch of sophistication to this quietly impressive update. Despite the fierce competition in the smartphone market, the iPhone 16 Pro continues to be regarded as the best pound-for-pound smartphone.
