Vienna's Gasthaus Stafler in dire need of a new proprietor

Struggling Viennese Inn Seeks Successor to Avert Closure

A popular South Tyrolean inn in Vienna, Gasthaus Stafler, is urgently searching for a new owner to prevent its permanent closure. Situated on Ehrenfelsgasse 4 in the 12th district, near the U4 station Meidling, the inn has been in operation for over a century.

The inn's current owners, Georg and Marie Stafler, who have managed the establishment for the past 15 years, have been compelled to close its doors since autumn 2024 due to an acute illness. The search for a buyer must be completed by the end of June 2025 to prevent the sale and liquidation of the inn's inventory and equipment.

With its vintage 1950s furniture, traditional inn tables, aged wooden floor, and original bar, Gasthaus Stafler offers a nostalgic atmosphere that provides customers with a sense of security, as per Georg Stafler's statements to our website. The inn has been able to maintain its historic charm while blending South Tyrolean and Viennese elements.

Regular patrons of the inn have expressed genuine sadness at its impending closure, as there are few remaining traditional Viennese suburban inns. The closure threatens not only the sentimental value of the establishment but also its financial stability. The inn's buyout price has been set at €32,000 (excl. VAT), which barely covers the costs of operation for the past six months.

Georg Stafler expresses a heartfelt desire for the inn to continue thriving and to be a place of comfort for both regular and new customers. He shares that the inn has garnered a reputation in the neighborhood and beyond, attracting a diverse patronage. Interested parties can reach out to the inn via email at [email protected].

The potential loss of Gasthaus Stafler, once applauded by our food critic Florian Holzer as one of Vienna's most beautiful inns, highlights the growing scarcity of traditional inns in the city. The impending closure has ignited calls for help from the community, with many hoping to see this cultural gem continue to flourish.

The impending closure of Gasthaus Stafler, a beloved Viennese inn, raises concerns not only about its financial stability but also the loss of its rich cultural heritage. Potential buyers have the opportunity to preserve the inn's unique food-and-drink offerings, nostalgic lifestyle, home-and-garden charm, and historic South Tyrolean and Viennese elements.
